Frequently Asked Questions from Parents

Uniform

Q:        Are the blazers unisex?

A:        No, the blazers for male/female students are slightly different.

 

Q:        Long or short sleeve blue shirts?

A:        There is no specific requirement for the sleeve length of the shirts.

 

Netbooks

Q:        Information about laptops, when they can order?

A:        The netbook project will be delayed this year due to the Coronavirus situation.  Further details about the netbooks will be available in the autumn.

 

Q:        When they have been ordered when will the students get them?

A:        Once the netbooks arrive it takes a short time to set them up for each student.  They will then be distributed a class at a time.

 

PE kit

Q:        Do girls need football boots?

A:        Certainly not in the first term.  Most of the time trainers are adequate.

If boots are needed for fixtures (matches against other schools) students will be told

in plenty of time.

 

Q:        What colour trainers for PE?

A:        Any colour of trainers are acceptable.

 

Q:        Football/Rugby boots – studs or Astro?

A:        Moulded studs are suitable for both the Astro and on the field.

 

Q:        Do they need PE kit on first day?

A:        No. Year 7 will not need PE kit on the first day.

 

Q:        What PE kit do students REALLY need to have?

A:        PE top, shorts/skort/Plain dark sports leggings (no branded logos), trainers,

a change of socks – ideally white sports socks or football/rugby socks.

Hooded PE top is optional but recommended in colder weather.

The canteen

Q:        How do parents pay for food?

A:        Through topping up the account via ParentPay.  Students can also add cash to their

            account using the machines in the canteen.

 

Q:        Do they have to bring packed lunch on first couple of days?

A:        If a packed lunch is required on the first day this will be indicated in the Induction Day details sent nearer to the start of term.

 

Payments to the school

Q:        When will parents receive pin for parent pay?

A:         As soon as the pupil is on our school roll in September we are able to set up accounts. We will write to parents with these details.

 

Lockers

Q:        How do I apply for a locker?

A:        Students just need to bring in a suitable padlock and the Head of Year will help

them to identify a vacant locker.

 

Equipment

Q:        What equipment is needed each day?

A:        The five a day;  Pen, Pencil, 30cm Ruler, Rubber, Calculator

 

MyEd app

Q:        How and when to access the My Ed app?

A:         The data manager will contact parents about this in the new term

 

 

The school day

Q:        What time do students have to be in school?

A:        Students should be in school by 8.25am.

​

Q: Is there a particular type of calculator that students need?

 

A: We highly recommend a Casio scientific calculator. They are very easy to use and have many very useful functions that make it much easier for students to access particular areas of maths compared to other brands of calculator. Specifically we recommend the fx-83GTX or the fx-85GTX.
